The Federal Attorney General's Office for Environmental Protection (Profepa) rescued two lions that were in suboptimal conditions at a residence in Puebla. The animals exhibited low muscle mass due to inadequate feeding. The rescue, carried out with the assistance of specialized personnel in feline handling, involved transporting the lions to the Wildlife Management Facilities (PIMVS) "Mi Mascota" Zoo in the municipality of Tecali de Herrera for their safeguarding.
The action took place on January 22 in response to a request from the Attorney General's Office, with Profepa supervising and accompanying the rescue of the two lions from the private home. According to Profepa, the lions did not have the appropriate space for their development and did not receive medical follow-up, which had caused their bodies to be in a deteriorated state due to poor nutrition. After the corresponding evaluation, the sedation of the animals was authorized to facilitate their transport.
The operation to transfer the lions involved personnel from the Altiplano Zoo in the State of Tlaxcala, agents from the Public Ministry, experts from the FGR, elements of the National Guard, and Sedena.
